Methods (Short Version)

p. 547

In Addition to Anderson's suggestions about telling your readers about your primary and secondary research strategies, ensure you:

  1. Include, as most did in the plan, some discussion of your research techniques and media more specifically.  Ensure this is up-to-date with the primary and secondary research you did.
  2. Shorten or omit many research questions that would be too obvious to your readers.  Keep research questions that will clarify the goals or findings of your report
  3. Include a paragraph on your 'collaboration method' -- noting a few of your better individual qualifications.
  4. Include a paragraph on your writing process, noting some collaboration with your instructor, revisions, and (vs.) editing processes.  Note: this may be something that needs the final touch at the end of the project.

As a group we conducted primary research through interviews and surveys in order to collect data on sustainable food system to get input from the community and target audience. Through these methods we got quantitative data which we incorporated with our study goals. Yahiya Saif attended one of the Seed Wayne meetings where we got an insight on what their potential goals are and how we can incorporate them. Bhavini Patel interviewed a community garden director from Windsor, Canada Lina Chaker., where she is president of Together we Flourish. We got input on the importance of community gardens, environmental protection and improving food security. We are hoping this would help us gain some general knowledge that we can use to perform our research and final results.

We put together a survey that we are using to get useful data that we can use towards this project. We are hoping to get some food ideas and feedback on our garden. The feedback will gives us insight into which direction we should take the project whether it is deign of sustainable gardens, or more about the community. We used research questions to really determine even people would actually want to join Seed Wayne not so much asking questions about what they know about sustainable food systems.

We conducted secondary results through the use of the internet. We used books, academic journals, case studies and online data bases to help us conduct the research needed. The sources we used are through credible and professional websites, google scholars and the library database. This helped us find our potential experimental garden design along with some criteria we are going to have. Our Secondary research consisted of questions pertaining to sustainable food systems in order to help us better organize our research, including but not limited to Why communities and anyone affected should care about this, or How will Seed Wayne benefit from our feasibility study.

Jai is our team leader as well as chief editor he also worked on criteria for the project. Bhavini is our Environmental Researcher, and will work on the environmental effects of garden design, she also helped with the survey as well as the methods section of the project. Yahiya is our Food Researcher, and research food security as well as health related issues with sustainable gardens, he also worked on overview of alternatives for the project. Lauren will be a Planner, and will research the benefits of sustainable food systems. She will plan out the schedule, and also aid data collection for our primary research, and indirect environmental impact. Lauren also contributed to the survey, as well as the methods section, with Bhavini and Hussein .Safayeth is our Organizer, and will aid the research of other team members, he is contributing to the overview of alternatives with Yahiya. Hussein will be our Community Researcher, and work on the community aspect of the study, he also worked on the survey with Lauren and Bhavini and contributed to the criteria section.
