day two

Page history last edited by Ashley Nivison 9 years, 1 month ago

 Meeting minutes: 10am-11am, 60 minutes

i. Attendees- Ashley, Guinluca, Neil, & Cody

ii.             Issues- we reviewed and are concerned with the navigation of Blight Busters website and issues with subscribing to website. We reviewed to explanation of feasibility reports and reviewed the superstructure.

iii.           Decisions- ALL team members must subscribe to the BB page and record results. All will write brief outline of the superstructure for class on Thursday.

Step One notes:

Identify a topic and a suitable genre: Feasibility report. We can compare alternate solutions to what our plan is which allows us to move general to specific. Generally, Blight Busters is unorganized and has a lack of helpful information available online.

We want to partner Wayne State with Blight Busters by way of service learning to increase volunteers and community outreach. BB needs volunteers and WSU students need opportunities such as this.

-we want to make the BB website more efficient and user friendly.  The website now, could provide a lot of information about future projects but doesn’t. We want to help improve community involvement by helping with some organization.

Increasing WSU involvement with BB through a service learning, intern opportunities, city connect, internship opportunities for marketing, honors colleges, engineering, etc.

-Our purpose is to provide BB with accessible contact information, event planning, web presence, organization, and community outreach by partnering Wayne State University.

Revision plans:

-We need to revise our day one notes and move our notes into a better-constructed paragraph. Move away from bullet points and into sentences.

-Once we revise our intro paragraph we can then answer: What organizational, or departmental, or social, or ecological GOALS are we helping to solve?

-Should we BRIEFLY list ONE OR TWO criteria per researcher to brainstorm/discuss exactly how we are hoping to evaluate the problem and potential solution?  (SAMPLE CRITERIA: "Our problem is one of implementation (of ...), cost, technological feasibility, sustainability, accessibility, effective marketing, ethics, organization, communication flows  ... Our solution addresses: Ease of implementation (of ...), cost/benefit, sustainability, reliability, ...)

-our draft states who our final readers are, Blight Busters, WSU, and ENG305.

Step two:

Good discussion with all members participating. It was helpful to review our page, the website, the assignment, the book, and the discussion questions, as a group. We needed to talk and all get on the same page and this section of discussion helped clarify our intended purpose. We need to spend time working on moving from bullet pointed notes to more formal sentencing.

-We need to revise a lot of step 2 by moving from general to specific. We need to exactly state our purpose to avoid confusion in the future. We need to all remain on the same page and not try to tackle a project that is too messy.

Research:

-we can look up successes of WSU service learning and WSU community partners

-everyone can record and monitor how the subscription to BB works

-those with facebook can monitor their online presence

-internship opportunities, how to get involved or to list job offerings at WSU.

-Cody makes good point about how to spread the word at WSU through social media, flyers, email, etc.

For next class:

-everyone subscribe to the page

-Guinluca makes google docs so in between class/over break we can stay in touch. Everyone play around on it and get comfortable if you haven’t used it before.

-view feasibility superstructure guidelines on pg 539. Everyone come up with a brief comments/ideas on each section. Thursday we will each choose which section their most comfortable/confident with. Over break we will research and plan per individual section of the draft.

-While working on the draft of the super structure we can be thinking about how to concisely states the outcome we desire for our project. What does everyone want to see this accomplish?

Next meeting- Thursday 9:35-11am @ the UGL or tba.. Everyone meet in the front lobby/front doors and we will go from there. Text/email if you’ll be late and we can tell you where to find us.
