Subject: Results of Workshop and Peer Feedback for Project One

I intend to transform my resume from an experiential resume to a skills based resume in order to make my skills more evident. I also intend on revising my cover letter to make a better argument that I have the ability to benefit the company and that I can assist them with their goals.

Workshop Results

After analyzing my peer’s feedback for project one I have realized that my cover letter and resume is far from done. Looking at the cover letter my peer suggested that my cover letter lacks key components such as explaining how the employer will benefit from having me as an employee (in this case an intern). In addition from the peer feedback I was able to identify that I didn’t make a strong enough argument of how Walgreens was reaching their goals. I’ve stated in my cover letter that they had a couple missions but it has come to my attention that I really haven’t addressed what Walgreens has been doing to approach those goals and how I will come in and contribute to the company. My peers have also mentioned that it would benefit me to mention some classes that I took that will help me verify my qualifications/knowledge.

While looking at my resume my peers have suggested that I could add some classes that I took to show that I am capable of handling the internship and what I’ve gained from each class. My peers have also suggested that in my employment history my skills were not clearly defined and that an employer may miss specific skills while skimming through my resume.

Revision Strategies & Procedures

My first priority is to revise my cover letter so that I can create a stronger connection between the company’s goals and my ability to help the company achieve those goals. I am not sure if it would be effective to state what Walgreens has done to reach their goals or if it would be more effective to focus on one of their goals (such as promoting diversity) and stating what I have done on my own to encourage diversity. However if I do pursue the second route I will be sure to explicitly state that I will continue to work towards diversity and that it would be beneficial for the company to have me help them work towards diversity because I have experience promoting diversity. In addition I will also make it more noted what my abilities are besides the ones that align with the company’s goals and I will definitely make sure to state how it will benefit the company.

My second priority is to revise my resume so that I make my skills gained from employment more explicit. Skimming over my resume may allow the employer to miss out on key skills. I am thinking about pursuing a skill based resume in order to make my skills more visible and explicit.

My last priority is to add classes that I’ve taken to help me enhance my qualifications for this internship. My peers have suggested that I add them to my cover letter and resume and that can be a quick add. In my cover letter I will add that to how I will benefit the company and on my resume (if I do pursue a skills based resume) I can put that under the appropriate skills.
