Show More Powertrain and Vehicle Engineering evaluation of incoming material, field returned Powertrain and vehicle fluids and components to characterize, and as necessary determine root cause of failures. Lab chemist would assist Product and Technical team with hands-on laboratory analytical analyses, results interpretation, development of new test methods, and provide written evaluation reports and test method documentation.

Analyze automotive materials and components with analytical chemistry instrumentation and methodology, including but not limited to standard ASTM and ISO test methods

Fundamental understanding of chemistry analytical instruments, methods, and methods development

Analyze,diagnose, and recommend/implement changes based on analytical lab test data

Recognize trends in analytical data
-
Recognize inconsistencies in analytical data, then remedy
-
GLP (good laboratory practice) knowledge and application thereof
-
ISO17025 Laboratory Competency Requirements knowledge and application thereof
-
Basic understanding of chemical properties, chemicals, and interactions with powertrain and vehicle component hardware, and sampling and analysis techniques to characterize materials

Utilize skills for chemistry related problem solving

Consult and interact with technical teams on chemical measurement basics

Work with internal and external (industry) materials engineering teams to develop thorough understanding of materials to support Product Teams
-
Work with Platforms and Product Teams to implement and develop chemical measurement technology necessary to support GM products worldwide
-
Execute testing and functional requirements independent of Manager’s direction
Qualifications
Required
-
BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science (Chemistry prefered, MS preferred)

Minimum of 2 years chemistry related experience
-
Must be willing and able to create and present information to peers, leadership, and internal/external customers as required
-
Expertise and/or detailed knowledge of chemical analysis techniques
-
Ability to work 4 ten hour days (Wed through Sat, Sun through Wed)
-
Travel expected to be necessary between Materials Labs in Warren and Milford
-
Work well both independently and on teams
-
Knowledge of 5S processes
