In chapter two of this week’s reading, the author gives both strategies and useful information of how to get a job. Anderson discusses the important and relevance of an updated resume and how to construct a successful cover letter. Anderson emphasized that your resume is not the same as filing out a job application; you have to make yourself stand out on paper. For each job you apply for, you need to tailor your resume to fit. It has to have key components like flow, ethics, and vocabulary.
I am a fine arts major concentrating in fibers and am pre-art therapy. I have already had multiple experiences in the work place but without a degree, I am unable to get a full time job in the field. I am however qualified to work hundreds of places with the experience I have in both the fibers dye laboratory and the Wayne State art galleries. When looking up potential jobs for project 1, I found 2 lab assistant positions in dye laboratories. One at WSU and one at Henry Ford.
My resume needs a lot of work. I have not updated it since this last spring and since then I have done a number of outstanding jobs that I know would set me apart of paper. Being an artist, I find it extremely important to not only have an up to date resume, but to have an up to date portfolio that is presented with a resume. Working in visual arts, seeing images of what I have done is more important than the way I can describe what I have done. Through this next project I wish to explore how to update my resume and digital portfolio.
