Dear Jared,

I believe that I would be a great fit for the English 3050 course.

As a Mechanical Engineering student, I know that in the future I am going to be ranked by my skill set. That makes this course very valuable to me because being able to have the knowledge of technical writing could make me more desirable as a potential employee. This course is also relevant to my academic career because in order to receive my degree and get a job I will need to pass this course.

With writing and many things in life, you have strengths and weaknesses. Some of my strengths and weaknesses when it comes to writing are bulleted below.

  • My vocabulary is diverse and growing.

  • I am creative and tend to think outside of the box.

  • My grammar is not as strong as it should be.

  • I question my ability and fear to take chances with my writing.

I have always been interested in books and enjoy reading, which is where my wide range of words stems from. I believe that reading and writing go hand in hand; therefore because I continue reading, my skills will continue to grow. Also, I have always been told I am creative and look at things with a different mindset. Both of these qualities are something special I have to offer because I would be able to contribute my skills and learn from the skills of my classmates.

Even though some may think of weaknesses as a bad thing, I believe that they are almost more important than my strengths. My weaknesses present a challenge to me. I have always been a competitive and determined girl. Therefore, having these weaknesses just drives me to work harder to grow as a writer and improve my skills. Being able to accept my weaknesses and be motivated to want to be a better writer is one of my best qualities to offer.

Additionally, I enjoy communicating and working together with other students. I am a responsible and respectful individual. Lastly, I believe that my finest attribution is that I love to learn. I enjoy bettering myself and I am fascinated by unfamiliar material. I think that all of these are key points to why I am a good candidate for this course.

If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email.
