Product Development Chemist

Position Summary:

The Chemist will develop new ink and coating formulations to aggressively grow sales with innovative Energy curable products. This incumbent will provide high-level expertise in formulation, testing, scale up, and commercialization of these products. Responsibilities will include serving as the day-to-day project leader for new product development projects, serving as the primary liaison with manufacturing, sales and technical services organizations, and interacting with external customers. The Chemist role will lead projects, have an expert knowledge of several product lines, applications, and markets, and have experience in all types of formulation.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Develop new ink and coating technologies according to the company technology roadmaps.
• Complete projects according to agreed upon budget and timetables utilizing Phase Gate methodology.
• Ensure that Customer, Sales, and Technical Service have all technical information needed to properly use new formulations.
• Stay current with patent and chemical literature.
• Interface with Manufacturing, Sales, Product Management, and Technical Services as required to solve customer problems and support existing business.
• Maintain laboratory notebooks.

• Can conduct a full search and summary of technical literature related to work projects.
• Plan and schedule all technical activities of a project(s).
• Is good at establishing clear directions
• Lays out work in a well-planned and organized manner.
• Maintains two-way dialogue with others on work and results.
• Use first-hand customer information to improve/develop products and services.

Qualifications:

The candidate should hold a minimum Bachelors degree in chemistry, polymer science or chemical engineering and should have at least five, but preferably ten years of proven “hands on” experience in formulating lithographic energy curable inks and coatings. The candidate is also expected to have a complete understanding of the lithographic printing process, associated with sheetfed and web printing. This should include current press configurations, coaters and curing technologies. The candidate should have the ability to work in a team environment. Strong written and verbal communications skills as well as project management skills are required for this role.
