Six Reader-Centered Strategies:

Using Anderson's 6 strategies here, we must apply the first two to an analysis of the organization you applied to and the readers of your resume. Then proceed to (1) analyze and revise your current draft of a C.V. or (2) start building a new resume (using a sample provided in the text as a model).

  1. Begin by identifying the specific task your readers will perform using your communication

    i. What does Anderson say are the three key things Employers look for?

Anderson says the three main key things that employers look for are Technical expertise, supporting abilities, favorable personal qualities. These key things will be incorporated into my C.V. by way of constructing a resume that enhances my abilities and shows the reader my qualities needed for the specific workplace.

ii. The three ways employers read resumes include:  initial screening, detailed examination of the most promising application, in-depth interview. Using key words in my resume will help with the initial screening of my resume. Readers are looking for specific terms that should be included in an acceptable resume. Depending on the type field, one page could or could not be enough. For instance, apply for a teaching position should require a relatively longer resume compared to a resume needed for a certain fashion designer intern.

  1. Identify the readers' attitudes that are relevant to the communication

ii. How will you learn who your readers are and what they want?

-Employers are more responsive to applicants who know about their organization and can express specific reasons for wanting to work for it. Because every job involves extensive interactions with co-workers, employers want to hire people who excel in these relationships. Of course, interactions with clients, vendors, and others outside the employer’s organization are also important.

-To respond to the employer’s question listed above in ways that make the employer want to hire you

-To convey a sense of your enthusiasm, creativity, commitment, and other attributes that employers value but can’t easily be communicated in your resume.
